Run for the Rocks half marathon 2011

Sunday my sister and i ran the inaugural Run for the Rocks half marathon in Hutchinson, KS. I was super excited to go home and run where i grew up and since they are planning on this being an annual event, i plan to put this one on my race calendar every year that i can!

It was a chilly 51 degrees as we were heading to the starting line. I filled up on a banana, peanut butter sandwich and some ham...i know sounds like a disgusting combination but i was aiming to have no low blood sugar!

The first 8 or so miles of the course was on trails, we then went onto some streets through neighborhoods (we went right down my aunt and uncle's street and they were out to cheer us on) and then across a main street and into the Kansas State fairgrounds. We zigzagged back and forth a lot through the grounds...they had music blaring in there so that was nice!

We then headed out of the fairgrounds...this is when we were coming out. Our loud cheering section made up of my husband, my mom and my kids and my sister's kids along with anyone else that was standing there whom my mom told to cheer for her girls :) were cheering very loudly...thus our smiles...

We then went on down the road a ways to be cheered on by my sister's husband Greg and the guys on his firetruck. They had been waiting at an earlier spot and had gotten a call right before we got to them so i know Susan was happy to see them!

We passed the Kansas cosmosphere and space center and went around Hutch community college and into Gowans stadium and around the track for our finish... No pr for me this race, we finished in 2:04:59 but Susan got a new pr so i was excited for her!

Our first thing to do after getting a bottle of water was to jump in the massage line! We bought some finisher t-shirts they had for sale at the finish line

Oh and my breakfast did me well, no low blood sugar! I loved running with my sister and glad that we could cross the line together. I have crossed the line with my oldest sister completing 26.2...crossed the line with my next to oldest sis completing 13.1...crossed the line with all 4 sisters and my mom completing 13.1 and now crossed the line with my youngest sis completing 13.1...Love it!

Next up...KC half-marathon October 15th but in the mean time i have a 15 miler to accomplish. The day of the KC is supposed to be a 16 miler training run for the marathon so maybe i will cross the line and just keep going for another 3 miles...ha, i kinda doubt that will happen so i may have to readjust a little!

Been awhile

Well, my last post i was still trying to get a long run accomplished! 7 or 8 or bust...it was a total bust that weekend! Another call to my husband to come pick me up.

My sister had been telling me to try these chews that she had used (she is hypoglycemic as well) and she had good results so i went and stocked up at Dick's with some different flavors to try.

My next run with them was great! I eat 1-2 before i head out for my run depending on how long i plan to run and then about 30-40 minutes in eat another 1 or 2 and continue this throughout my run.

I did finally accomplish a 9.5 mile, it was supposed to be 10 but i settled with 9.5. I am going to try some other things with nutrition as well but not trying anything new before my next run...which by the way is this coming Sunday! I am so excited to go home to run their inaugural half marathon! And...i get to run it with my sister, so excited about that as well!

My favorite flavor is orange and pink lemonade...haven't tried this flavor...

I have started having some hip pain again...big double UUG! I know exactly what it is (my IT band) i had trouble with this a yr or two ago. I visited a sports medicine dr last time when it got pretty bad so at least i know what i'm dealing with and know some stretches that hopefully should help. I am hoping it stays to a minimum since i am registered for a half marathon this week, another in October and then a full marathon in December!

My goal for this weekend is of course to beat my 1:57:05 is that not everyone's goal each time to beat their pr?? BUT, am i ready to do that...i have no idea, my training up to this point has been extremely frustrating and i have struggled obviously so we will just have to see how it turns out.

Happy running! I have an easy week with easy runs till Sunday!
