I don't heart train tracks

Depending on which way i go many of my running routes cross train tracks. You may or may not see me get completely disgusted when the lights start flashing just as i'm getting within reach of the tracks thinking...i can make it, i can make it...ding ding ding! Uuugh! I was out for a 4 mile run the other day and was trying to pick up speed for my last mile. I had made it across the tracks once on the way out and then in that last mile sure enough just as i was reaching it...ding ding ding!

I do not like to stop when i run. If i do stop it is very hard for me to get back in a rhythm, especially if i am pretty far into my run. I don't know if it's all mental or not but my goal is always not to stop and it's always a disappointing run when i do. Trust me, i have had plenty of those type of runs...soo, stopping for 5 minutes and waiting on a train really messes up my run!

I have pretty much been running about 4-5 mile distances lately with some 3 milers mixed in. I am going to start picking up the distance here soon as i start to train for the "run for the rocks half marathon". My hometown (Hutchinson) is having their inaugural half marathon this September. I am very excited! I will be keeping journal here some of my training. I plan to follow that run in October with the KC half marathon.

In the meantime i am planning on getting some 5ks in and maybe a 10k or two.

My next planned run is a Friday night twilight run. I really love running at night...what a way to spend a Friday evening :)

What races do you have on your calendar. If you have one planned leave it in my comments so i can cheer you on via blog post!

Happy running! (happy that is unless waiting on trains...)

Running in Cherokee

Over the weekend i was in Iowa so i got to go running in Cherokee, IA. I ran over the Little Sioux River. The one thing i didn't really pay attention to while i was running out one direction since i was just checking out all the little details about this small town was that i was going downhill...until i turned around to run back to the hotel and quickly realized!

I only got in about a 3 mile run but it was fun running in a different location. Seeing the local people hang out in a little diner on a Saturday morning and watch numerous trailers carrying humoungous parts to extremely large windmills that seem to be everywhere in Iowa!

What i would have really loved to do was to go running on a country road!

We passed a huge field of hay bails and it reminded me of what i did in high school to help me stay in shape. I would go find a field with hay bails and run and climb over, run and climb over... my legs were a little scratched up when done but let me tell ya, it was a good workout! And, it was not a boring workout! :)

I challenge you if you don't run...get out and alternate walking and running for a 1 mile stretch this week. If you do it all week you will be running more of the mile than walking by the end of the week!

Starting out

Welcome to my new running blog! I decided to start this to journal my days of running. I won't always be able to run like i do now, but right now i have the health to do it... i don't take that for granted! I love running and while i can i'm going to get out and enjoy it. It is a passion of mine. It makes me happy, it calms my nerves, it helps my stress level, it makes me feel good and yes...i have gotten the runner's "high".

I have days that suck too. Days when 3 miles feels like 10. Days when i'm sluggish and feel like i've never run before. Days when i get mad and stop and walk and verbally say "this sucks" It's all a part of it.

The good days far outweigh the bad and make the bad worth it. When you get that pr all of those bad days kinda fade into the background!

I am hypoglycemic. I struggle with this in my running. I eat a lot of peanut butter! I will blog more about this at other times.

I am a mama to 4, and work 2 part time jobs. It is not easy at all to balance every thing and get to run like i would like to...i will blog about that at times.

So...if you run, if you want to run, or if you just want to read about running joys and frustrations...victories and failures...welcome to my running blog!
